Overgrown

James Blake - 2013

I'm one of the only people who believe that singer/songwriter/producer James Blake's sophmore effort Overgrown is better than his self-titled debut. Blake scaled back the dubstep approach that he took to his first album, and replaced it with instrumentals that kept his classical piano training abilities on full force, but added hip-hop flavored synth pop in the meantime, and improved his songwriting ability to the next level, and his song structure went from experimental to almost R&B level. But sacrificing the expermentation found on James Blake didn't sacrifice the level of quality that Blake puts in his music, and he delivers a more accessible version of the soft- and loud at the same time sound he's perfected. Favorite songs: Retrograde (!), Digital Lion Least favorite songs: Dim, Take A Fall For Me most overrated song: Life Round Here most underrated song: Overgrown

I guess that I'm one of the only people too... I think that your review is spot on... and I think this guy has the potential for a 5 star album in his future.
