Beyoncé - 2013

pulling a marketing stunt that put a death grip on iTunes (get it), Beyoncé released her fifth album out of nowhere with a list of collaborators that would make any artist salivate at first sight. But the final product? average. On one hand, you have the raw sexuality that thrills on songs like XO and Flawless, but takes itself a little too seriously sometimes. The ballads on here are OK at best, but never really seem to grab your attention in the way some of the tracks on Queen Bey's impressive last LP, 4, showed off her impressive vocal skills. In a year where marketing experimentation resulting in average albums (Jay Z, Arcade Fire, Drake) wasn't an extraordinary sight, Beyoncé didn't create the so-called "#Newrules" that her and her husband had promised to deliver. Instead, she did exactly what she was supposed to do; make a scene and not much else. Favorite tracks: Superpower, Flawless Least favourite songs: Mine, Pretty Hurts Most overrated song: Mine Most underrated song: Superpower

I'm really glad that you reviewed this one. I don't know her stuff other than the hits, and it was such an ambitious release that I was hoping to hear someone's perspective on it.
