Hot Dreams

Timber Timbre - 2014

Timber Timbre are film makers. Not literally, but Hot Dreams sounds like a soundtrack to a David Lynch film that was never made. It's moody and cinematic. It's a film in black and white. There's a tumbleweed rolling by. Although they are Canadian, so maybe it's a stark, frozen landscape, and I'm totally off track. Whatever.

Taylor Kirk's deep, dark, voice speak-sings his simple, yet clever vocals. Their sound is bluesy, moody, and atmospheric. The song that comes to mind as a comparison is the Leonard Cohen song, "Waiting For The Miracle", from the Natural Born Killers soundtrack.

I have a number of favorite tracks, but "Run From Me" has my favorite lyrics. The song structure feels like a traditional, maybe Hank Williams kind of song. Sung with deadpan seriousness, Taylor tells his love:

Run from me darlin'

Run my good wife

Run from me darlin'

You'd better run for your life

If someone asked me to sum up your taste in music, I would play them this album. This is so completely Tony Tambe.

Interesting. I'll have to think of that the next time I listen to it.
