Burn Your Fire For No Witness

Angel Olsen - 2014

Angel Olsen strikes me as a talent that is just coming into her own now after serving under the tutelage of Bonnie Prince Billy for a number of albums. Burn Your Fire For No Witness was produced by John Congleton, (he's engineered or produced everything you've listened to for the last few years), and he pulls her out of her shell to reveal some of the thorns, fire, dirt, and distortion that lie within an otherwise quiet voice. The album has peaks of country rocking, think Patsy Cline with distored guitars, to subtle balladry. It's a strong album start to finish, but it does leave me hoping for more in the future. A lot of people think it's a top ten album, and while I don't think it's that good, I'm really looking forward to what she does next.
