Native Construct - 2015
I actually can't quite remember how I found this album. Either way, it was a great catch. It's not one of my favorites of the year, but it was one of the most surprising. I wasn't expecting such a new band like this to already have a quality album to their name. There is literally no other material I can find by them, other than this album. But a great one nonetheless.
If you hadn't already guessed by the album cover, and the album name, this is progressive metal. And while a lot of progressive metal these days can be a load of shit, I'd like to think that this album stands out this year. There is even a song with some doo-wop placed in there. It's quite a frantic album, and has traces of your usual death metal/vocals in there. Speaking of the vocals, I really thought they were awesome. One of the songs, "Come Hell Or High Water" really shows them off well. One minute he has a nice calm soft voice, next minute he's growling, and then the next he manages to balance both. So top marks for his vocals. The instrumentation is, as usual, all over the place, but like I said earlier, it has quite a diverse offering scattered all over the album to keep you interested. And that's pretty much it. Like I said earlier, not one of my favorites this year, but I still enjoyed it a bit, and if anybody is into progressive metal and wants a 2015 release to bite their teeth into, then I urge you to check this one out.
