St. Germain - 2015

Ludovic Navarre has been releasing albums for twenty years but his US break through came in 2000.  Tourist became popular in the era of nu jazz alongside bands such as Thievery Corporation, Zero 7, Air, Dimitri from Paris, koop, and Massive Attack.  In other words, this Frenchman had better have something significant to say in a time when the airwaves are dominated by Drake, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and One Direction.  Luckily, St. Germain gives us an interesting take on their old style.  Navarre experiments with numerous different sounds and instruments from Africa and the East that makes for a compelling set.  Plus, I’ve always been a sucker for a Lightnin’ Hopkins sample!  Overall, pleasantly surprised!
