How to Assemble an Atomic Bomb!

Mogwai atomic 640x640

Mogwai - 2016

WOW.  Um, I told you so?  I mean I literally told you so!  In my scathing review of Mogwai’s Rave Tapes, I studied the highs and lows of Mogwai’s music dating back to their debut and outlined a five point plan that would lead to their success in the future.  And wouldn’t you know it, they checked off every one of the 5 boxes and turned in a brilliant new addition to their discography that has been hailed by critics as a master stroke!

Number 1:  Stick to Soundtracks.  CHECK!

Number 2: Ballads Only. CHECK!

Number 3:  No Vocals. CHECK!

Number 4:  Great Closers = Great Albums. CHECK!

Number 5:  Short Track List. CHECK!

I hereby declare myself the Nostradamus of Post-Rock!

Atomic is the disquieting soundtrack to Mark Cousin’s documentary Atomic, Living in Dread and Promise.  It’s an unnerving listen.  It’s dystopian. Devastating.  And superb!

Unfortunately, ‘Gwai have already returned to their studio in Glasgow to start work on their next rock album.  I’d like to end this review by predicting that it will be complete shite.
