Conor Oberst & The Mystic Valley Band - 2009

When Oberst headed down to Mexico to record 2008s self titled album, he asked some friends to come down to help him record. When he left he had a fully realized band. On Outer South, the band is front and center. Conor is obviously far and away the most talented songwriter of the bunch, but each member contributes songwriting and vocals to put their own fingerpint on the album. If the Monsters of Folk are this years Traveling Wilburys, then the Mystic Valley band is this years version of the band. Its all for one and one for all from a songwriting perspective. Woven in amongst some of the hits and misses, are a few of Obersts best songs since Im Wide Awake, Its Morning. This band has a ton of potential, as long as they continue to realize their strength.
