Charlie Puth - 2018
Charlie Puth manages to do an excellent mash-up of early Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake (pre-Man of the Woods), and 90s R&B (he even features Boyz II Men on one track), using a variety of different synth sounds that would make Herbie Hancok and Daft Punk jealous. It's proper groove-oriented stuff, with plenty of falsetto to get the listener swooning over Puth's declarations of love and heartbreak. Though the sounds are not new per say, they stand out in today's pop music scene. Quincey Jones would be proud of this one.
Highlights: If You Leave Me Now (ft. Boyz II Men), How Long, Done For Me (ft. Kehlani), and BOY
Negatives: After the tenth song, the album's quality dips for the final three songs. Change (ft. James Taylor) would have been the perfect song to end on.Andrew Scott Back
