Guns 'N Roses Reunion Lineup
I'm putting the cart before the horse here a bit, but this is important, so it needs to be discussed. A few recent events have culminated in rumors flying wildly on the internet about a Guns 'N Roses reunion tour featuring the original members.
The current version of the band, let's call them "Axl and Friends" or A 'N F for short, just saw both of their guitar players leave. One mentioned after leaving that he expected 2016 to be a big year for the band. Now, band members flee the insanity that is Axl Rose all the time, so maybe it's just another roster change. Although....
The second event in recent weeks is a comment made by Slash that he and Axl have talked and cleared up whatever it was that was causing a rift between them for so long. Now THAT is big.
I've longed for a GNR reunion for decades now, and I'll be first in line for tickets. This may be the first tour that I attend more than one show at MSG. (I assume they'll play a few nights) this got me thinking of two questions.....
1) Who do I think will be in this reunited version of the band?
2) Should Matt Sorum or Steven Adler play drums? (Assuming Steven could hold up for a whole tour)
#2 first - while Steven would be a cool pick as the drummer because he was there on Appetite, and it makes a reunion tour a real reunion, Matt is a better drummer, still working at a high level, and was there for the Use Your Illusion albums. Matt would be my pick.
As for question #1, it's only a reunion if Axl, Slash, and Duff are involved. Duff is a slam dunk because he's remained friends with everyone and continues to make music. After those three guys and the question of which drummer, is the big wild card. Everyone's choice for rhythm guitar would be Izzy Stradlin, but he left the band first, and aside from that JuJu Hounds record in the 90's, I'm not sure what the hell he's been up to. More likely would be Gilby Clarke, which would be ok, but a slight disappointment. (*Note - I just looked Izzy up in the iTunes store and apparently he's been putting out solo albums for years now)
My ideal lineup:
I could see an acceptable lineup of:
Realistically I just need Slash and Axl in some form. That moment when Slash steps up on top of Axl's piano for the guitar solo to November Rain makes me wet my pants.
What are your thoughts? Lineup picks?
